About Us
What began as the Forest Climate Working Group in 2007 has since evolved into the Forest Policy Working Group. This shift reflects our commitment to shaping the policies that drive real, lasting change toward healthier forests for all.
We believe that conserving, restoring, and sustainably managing forests is essential to healthy ecosystems, clean air and water, and the communities and economies that depend on them. Sustainably sourced forest products drive economic growth while reducing reliance on non-renewable resources.
Yet, forests face mounting pressure from wildfire, climate change, land use conversion, and shrinking markets — threats that could erode forest cover and productivity for decades to come. Meeting these challenges requires sound management, the expertise of rural, urban, and Indigenous stakeholders, and strong public policy to build resilience, accelerate restoration, expand investment, and grow the forest workforce.
Together, the Working Group advances solutions to these threats by influencing forest-based public policy through a consensus-driven process, grounded in science and data, research, and extensive forest experience.
