Michigan State University Department of Forestry - Forest Carbon and Climate Program
June 1 @ 3:00 pm
We’ll explore general trends in and causes of wildfires, and the potential to mitigate the impact of wildfires with proactive land management and changes to our fire management systems. The ultimate rationale to better prepare for future wildfires in a changing climatic world is to minimize the amount and spatial extent of uncharacteristic, stand-replacing wildfire. Such severe wildfire has broad and long-lasting implications for all the wonderful things that forests provide, including carbon storage… and carbon has that interesting feedback to the atmosphere and future climate.
